Lectures on Global Environmental Change Science in BNU, Series I

On the invitation of Dr. Yongjiu Dai, the Chair of School of Geography of Beijing Normal University, Robert E. Dickinson gave a 5-day-course in BNU on “Land Surface Processes Modeling” from Nov. 16 to Nov.20. Dr. Dickinson’s lectures mainly focused on 4 issues:

1.       Introduction lecture on issues in land surface processes modeling;

2.       Issues on canopy radiation;

3.       Issues on snow and hydrology;

4.       Issues on statistical scaling approaches.

Dr. Robert E. Dickinson has been contributing to the fields of climate modeling and global change research for over 40 years. He has been active in committees, panels, and working groups of the NRC, IGBP, WCRP, and IPCC, and is members of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Foreign Member). His current research aims to improve the understanding of global and regional climate and earth system through the modeling of land, vegetation and radiative processes. During this course, Dr. Dickinson’s excellent presentation, profound knowledge and noblest personality impressed participants deeply, his incisive insight of modeling gave everyone lots of enlightenment.
